"Everything in life is speaking, in spite of its apparent silence" - Hazrat Inayat Khan
I've been staring at the above quote all week, written on the chalkboard wall opposite my 'office desk' since I arrived. I've been out here one other time previously, and I forgot that above everything else, the gorgeous landscape, the cozy reading nooks, the night sky that takes your breathe away, that's what I find so very special about it; the absolute, deafening silence. There is nowhere to run or hide from the voices in your head, screaming to be heard, knocking on little doors you didn't know had been locked, whispering words of encouragement when you hit a roadblock. I know that about myself, that I work, I write well in solitude, but its experiences like these that remind me how incredibly essential it is to my creativity, my sanity. I wish that all of my artist friends had a place like this to escape to every once in a while, I am incredibly grateful and do know how lucky I am.
So, hold onto your hats folks because the rest of 2013 is going to be a creative explosion for this little company. I'll be remounting both existing solo shows this August, including a significant rework of EXPIRATION DATE at MN Fringe with new collaborators. AND with the aid of a MRAC Community Arts Grant we'll be sharing workshop performances of a brand new piece in November. Hope to see many of you in the coming months at one or all of these offerings. Lots of info coming, so stay tuned.
Oh, and I hear Spring is finally back in MN, just in time for my return. Nicely done!
