BLUEPRINT is one-woman play with video, movement, and audio montage that follows a modern-day cowgirl as she explores what it means to be a woman today.

Created in part through a community interview process, Candy explores this complicated topic through a highly physical performance, layering traditional character monologues, alongside heightened movement, alongside video projection. Using honesty and humor she weaves autobiographical content alongside community voices.

Gender and power in our modern day society is still very much at the forefront. In what ways does or doesn't this awareness shape behaviors of our community? Do women play by a separate stringent set of rules or are we all bound by societal expectations packaged as cozy tradition?

A Peek into the Process

Over 40 women across the country (so far) have contributed interviews during the creation process of BLUEPRINT.  As we come into the final stretch of completing the piece I'll be sharing excerpts here from interviews I've conducted.  Although the spirit of every interview will be integrated into the piece, with such an abundance of material being collected I'll only be able to include a small percentage of voices directly within the finished play.  My hope is that by posting audio excerpts here I'll be able to further share stories and voices that may not make sense in the final theatrical work.
